Obituary for Verdia Tharp Atkins

Verdia Tharp Atkins-age 90 of Maynardville passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Physicians Regional Medical Center. She was born July 8, 1926 in Luttrell. She was a devoted Christian and a lifelong member of New Friendship Baptist Church. Her love of the Lord and family was unconditional. Preceded in death husband, J. T. Atkins; son, Jackie Junior Atkins; grandson, Brian Wesley Atkins; parents, John and Lizzie Tharp; four brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by sons, David (Vickie) Atkins; Tommy (Andra) Atkins, both of Luttrell; daughters, Norma Atkins Corum of Cleveland, TN; Trish Wyrick Bailey of Maynardville; sister, Eula Mae Lowder of Kokomo, Indiana. Nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.

The family will receive friends 5-7 P.M. Saturday, December 3, 2016 with funeral services to follow at 7 P.M., Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Jack Walker officiating with eulogy and obituary by Tim Atkins. Music by Union Baptist Church Singers. Interment 2 P.M. Sunday, December 4, 2016, Pleasant View Cemetery, Maynardville. Family and friends will meet at 1:15 P.M. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers: Dan Collins, Jackie Muncey, Steve Tharp, Greg Wyrick, Spencer Wyrick, Jeff Tussy. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.
