Louise Horton Pittman

Louise Horton Pittman passed away April 18, 2016 after a long illness. A longtime resident of Clarksdale and Coahoma County, MS, she had been a resident of East Tennessee since her retirement in 1997.

Born, October 6, 1924, near Tutwiler, MS to the late Madden Cromwell Horton and Sallie Hardin Horton of Grenada and Coahoma Counties, Mrs. Pittman was a 1944 graduate of Coahoma County’s former Sunflower High School. Mrs. Pittman was a very proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a caring friend to all. She was a longtime member of Clarksdale’s Oakhurst Baptist Church and in later years First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Pittman was a member of Greenbrier Tennessee United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and Woodland Street United Methodist Church in Springfield, TN. Mrs. Pittman was a long time business office employee of Northwest MS Regional Medical Center and Haggard Drugs in Clarksdale.

Mrs. Pittman is survived by a son, former MS State Senator Charles Pittman and devoted daughter-in-law Kathy Hannan Pittman, both Clarksdale natives and retired residents of Sharps Chapel, TN. Mrs. Pittman is also survived by four grandchildren, Michelle Pittman Cox of Knoxville, TN; Shauna (David) Sullins of Ogden, Utah; Will (Allison) Simpson of Jackson, MS; Lori (Josh) Simpson Beasley of Hoover, AL and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Timothy Pittman, daughter Patricia Pittman Simpson and son-in-law Mike Simpson; four sisters, infant Mary Magdalene Horton, Elizabeth Horton Harris, Virginia Horton Brasher, Ruth Horton McCracken; three brothers, Charlie Horton, Harry Horton and Eli Horton.

National Funeral Home of Clarksdale, MS is in charge of arrangements with graveside services only to be conducted by Rev. Mike Stovall at Clarksdale’s Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 23, 2016.
